This poster session will highlight materials and successful management strategies of leadership education programs offered in communities throughout Minnesota that have been developed by Extension Educators in Leadership and Civic Engagement of the University of Minnesota Extension Service.

These programs, such as the Red River Valley Emerging Leadership Program, Bridging Brown County, the Minnesota Agricultural Leadership Program and others, are community-based and comprehensive in both their design and delivery. They offer unique opportunities for participants from a variety of locations and backgrounds to learn and directly apply leadership in their communities. Through stories, descriptions and data, those visiting this display will learn more about:

  • program principles and design,
  • involvement of local sponsors and collaborators,
  • the cohort model and other program management strategies,
  • roles of local sponsors and collaborators,
  • marketing and funding strategies, and
  • approaches to evaluation.

Also available for review will be the U-Lead Program Guide. This recently drafted publication, written in partnership with the University of Minnesota Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, documents over 15 years of collective experience in successful program design and management strategies by Extension professionals involved in leadership education and civic engagement work.
