This program is a grass -roots pilot program in traffic safety for children and their families in 100 elementary classrooms in Bolivar County, MS. Twenty community volunteers are teaching the program to more than 3,000 children. Two animal characters are introduced: Snappy, The Adult Safety Turtle, who is depicted as a police officer, and Snappy, The Baby Safety Turtle. The program uses a 32-page activity booklet with interactive and creative games to teach traffic safety to children ages 5-11 and their families. Miss Mississippi for 2005, a student at Delta State Univ., is the primary vocalist.
Also, each child receives a CD with 20 songs and poems on Traffic Safety.

The goals of the Snappy program are: (1) to increase the use of safety seats and seat belts; (2) reduce citations, accidents, injuries and deaths; and (3) to develop a program in Mississippi that can be used nationally.
