The Tipton County Extension-Education Center
provides numerous educational programs in the areas of personal
enrichment, certification, college credit and personal tutoring
(Educational Enhancement). The Extension- Education Center has provided
educational opportunities for individuals to increase knowledge,
understanding and skills for personal enrichment, upward economic
mobility, and career advancement.
- PERSONAL ENRICHMENT - educational opportunities that develop
and enhance the learner's knowledge and skills. These courses
may be for the adult or youth learner; on an individual basis
group, or integrated into the business (workforce) development
curriculum.
- CERTIFICATION COURSES - course work that would lead to certification
and/or credits toward certification in specific program areas.
These courses may be on an individual basis or integrated into
the business (workforce) development curriculum.
- CREDIT COURSES -course work from an accredited college or university
that may lead to technical, undergraduate or graduate credit.
Courses may be via distant education methods such as Internet,
satellite or video conference. Courses may also be presented by
on site instructors.
- TUTORING (EDUCATIONAL ENHANCEMENT) -educational instruction
(either one on one or small group) that is subject specific and
tailored to meet the pressing educational needs of the learner.
- COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS If organizations
and communities are to embrace the challenges and opportunities
that face them in today's world, leadership skills and processes
are essential. The purpose of this program is to develop leaders
through self-awareness and enhancement of their leadership skills.
Programs designed to meet the organization's or community's needs.
- WORKFORCE & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT - Partnering between Extension-Education
Center and local business to train workers, this includes opportunities
for individuals to enhance their skills (social/soft, technical,
and specific job related) developing an increasingly skilled workforce.
The objective is to attract more business and industry to Tipton
County with better skilled and more productive workforce
From 2002-2004, the Education Center was governed by a Board of
Directors responsible for the strategic, policy and oversight responsibilities
for the Education Center. Year 4 began the uniting of the Education
Center Board with the Tipton County Extension Board under a new
name as the Tipton County Extension-Education Center Board. This
board is governed according to revised and adopted by-laws of the
current Extension Board. These by-laws reflect the educational missions
of both organizations. Purdue University assists the Board in developing
and carrying out programs as well as provides technical and educational
support.
In addition, consolidation of the programs, services, staff, equipment
and funds of the Tipton County Education Center with the programs,
services, staff and budget of Purdue University-Tipton County Cooperative
Extension Service into a new educational model in partnership with
Purdue University began in 2005.
Short Program Description: The Tipton County Extension-Education
Center provides numerous educational programs in the areas of personal
enrichment, certification, college credit and personal tutoring
(Educational Enhancement).
