Start with a realistic view of the present, a dream of the future…and a commitment to making a dream come true." CD professionals can assist with development and issue management during the land use planning process as a locality moves from the formation of a vision to an official corridor designation and management by the appropriate organization. America's Byways program and the National Heritage Area program both require planning and development components as land use tools to preserve and enhance a corridor's viewshed. A corridor management plan is also used to identify and improve the intrinsic qualities of the community's natural resources. Partnership with these programs provides a research support base through the Federal Highway Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation and the National Park Service. This skill building session addresses how extension community development educators can use their strategic planning, marketing, program evaluation, and group facilitation skills to build a collaborative relationship with community agencies and organizations to implement their plans. The presenter will provide fact sheets and assessment guides that support the role of corridor management within the context of land use planning and regional economic development. The presenter will provide examples of how environmental impact assessment and other evaluative tools were implemented at the local and regional level.
