The National Sea Grant College Program is a network of 30 university-based programs working with coastal communities in support of coastal resource use and conservation, via extension services and targeted research. In 2001, NOAA established the Coastal Community Development (CCD) program within the Sea Grant Extension Program. The purpose of this program is to provide leadership in helping coastal communities address issues related to land use and coastal resources. Sea Grant’s CCD extension personnel engage in a wide range of activities designed to support community leaders as they make development-related decisions, including education for local decision-makers, creation of advisory groups, and assistance in addressing various aspects of land use planning and development. This session will highlight just a few of the outstanding examples of the CCD’s program accomplishments from around the country.
