Trading Spaces: Increasing Employees Understanding of Limited Income Employees

Success Story

Speaker:
Kathleen Haas
University of Wisconsin

Have any of your local employers wondered if their employees have:

  • Transportation challenges?
  • Food security issues?
  • Childcare concerns?
  • Financial problems?

Participants of this session will discover how Columbia County's Labor Forum, facilitated by UW-Extension, provided information (using role play, small group discussion circles, lecture and team collaboration) to area employer's about:

  • what challenges some limited income families experience and how does "poverty" impact Columbia County's labor force;
  • how their company can examine its policies and procedures to better accommodate people who live in poverty;
  • give them an opportunity to network with area service-providers who are serving limited income families in their community.
