In 1989, Clemson University received a grant from the Kellogg Foundation to design, develop and implement leadership programs in South Carolina. In 1990, Clemson began hiring agents to deliver a new program in South Carolina called "Palmetto Leadership" which is a program to help rural communities and communities in transition to build leadership capacity and foster change. Fast forward to the year of 2005 with 27 leadership programs completed in the South Carolina Lowcountry. Find out why these leadership programs have been successful year after year for 15 years. You will also learn how the programs are managed, how to successfully run a program with volunteers, and how to successfully engage students to work on community problems. Included with the presentation will be videos of students planning the programs and White Paper presentations where students address community issues. Handouts will include copies of the brochure used for recruitment and a copy of the powerpoint presentation.
