This presentation describes the results of utilizing the successful "Take Charge" Extension visioning program over the last ten plus years in Vermont. It describes and discusses three communities' challenges and successes. The first community Derby, VT envisioned an indoor recreation facility back in 1992. As a result of the Take Charge program a committee was formed to work on the idea. After 12 years a multi-million dollar center opened in October of 2004. The Town of Burke Vermont was in a dilemma when its' ski mountain went bankrupt. As a result of Take Charge a recreation trails committee was formed and developed the "Kingdom Trails", a premier mountain biking/ski trail. The third community, Newport, VT was interested in Downtown revitalization. The results of their efforts included new sidewalks, tree planting, curbing, façade improvements and the creation of a new "Gateway" Center on the lake.
