We the People: Building Inclusive Communities
Communities across the nation are increasingly diverse with respect to culture. Throughout all Extension program areas, greater emphasis has been placed on inclusive participation in our programming. Extension community development professionals must respond to both of these forces. And so, understanding culture and how communication works within and between varied cultures is critical for community development professionals, whether in rural, suburban or urban settings. Through this day-long workshop, participants will better understand intercultural communication; how conflicts are perceived and resolved across cultures; and, as importantly, personal styles of communication and conflict. Come, learn and experience practical content that you will use when you work with changing communities in your state, county or region. (8:30 AM - 4:00 PM)
Presenters: Sara Taylor, Sentient Consultants; Dick Senese, University of Minnesota Extension Service
